COMPLETE PRIVATE CLOUD SOLUTION FOR OLD-AGE AND FAMILY BENEFITS FUNDS

As an AHV and family allowance fund for industry associations, EXFOUR sets the highest standards for security, availability and operational independence in its IT systems. The previous hosting and terminal server solution no longer met these requirements – particularly in terms of flexibility, security and performance. The migration to the MTF Business Cloud has resulted in the implementation of a modern, comprehensive solution.

Highlights

  • Efficient service with significantly shorter response times
  • Secure private cloud solution without Microsoft 365 and Teams
  • Existing Linux clients remain in use
  • Location-independent access via VDI with Windows 11 desktops
  • Greater rights and autonomy for the internal IT team
  • High performance through VDI rather than a terminal server environment
“Migrating to MTF was exactly the right decision. At last we have a partner who understands our needs as an AHV and family allowance fund. The support is prompt and professional, our IT team can work more independently, and the VDI solution works flawlessly. We can wholeheartedly recommend MTF.”

CLOUD MIGRATION AND VDI WITH A FOCUS ON SECURITY

CHALLENGE

As an independent public-sector institution, EXFOUR is subject to high standards regarding data security, availability and the legally compliant processing of sensitive information. The existing hosting and terminal server solution was increasingly unable to meet these requirements. Particular problems included the lack of flexibility in IT services, inadequate performance coupled with rising user numbers, and the limited scalability of the systems. Support from the existing IT provider also proved inadequate – long waiting times, even for simple administrative tasks such as creating new user accounts or virtual servers, significantly hampered operational efficiency. The aim was to find a solution that combined high technical standards with modern user-friendliness, operational efficiency and greater autonomy in IT operations.

SOLUTION

As part of the project, EXFOUR’s existing private cloud infrastructure was successfully migrated from a third-party provider to the MTF Business Cloud. A new, dedicated domain (EXFOUR.internal) was set up, and all application servers, file server data and email services were transferred to the new environment. Users now work on the basis of a VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) concept with dedicated Windows 11 desktops operated in the private cloud. This provides employees with a high-performance, stable and location-independent working environment. The local infrastructure was also modernised: the networks for office and telephony were rebuilt. A modern firewall is used for segmentation both locally and in the private cloud. The existing client hardware – a mix of thin and fat clients, Linux-based – could continue to be used. Furthermore, a conscious decision was made not to use Microsoft 365 and Teams. Instead, a traditional Office suite is used, which meets the security and data protection requirements of the public sector. The internal IT team was given greater autonomy through higher administrative rights and direct access to virtual resources in the new environment.
