TRANSPARENCY AND SECURITY THANKS TO COMPREHENSIVE IT SCREENING

The F.G. Pfister Group has stood for sustainable success and entrepreneurial growth for many years. The acquisition of several companies increased the complexity of the IT infrastructure, which brought with it new challenges in the areas of transparency and IT security. Together with MTF, a structured IT screening was developed to identify weak points, derive targeted measures and improve IT security in the long term. The result is a strengthened IT landscape that meets the individual requirements of the individual companies and at the same time creates the basis for future optimisation.

Highlights

  • Creation of transparency and an overview of the IT landscape of all companies
  • Identification of weaknesses and strengths to derive targeted measures
  • Establishing a continuous dialogue between the companies and the IT service providers
  • Promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience within the Group
  • Development of a reusable framework for future IT screenings
  • Initiation of a sustainable IT security improvement process
‘We were able to analyse and evaluate the IT infrastructure, IT security and IT processes in our heterogeneous group of companies in a targeted manner with MTF. We drew on the expertise of MTF and external IT service providers from the group companies to ensure the relevance and acceptance of the measures. Thanks to the technical and human qualifications of the MTF team, this was a complete success.’

IDENTIFYING HIDDEN POTENTIAL FOR MORE SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY

CHALLENGE

The F.G. Pfister Group grew considerably through the acquisition of several companies, resulting in an increasingly complex and heterogeneous IT landscape. This decentralised structure made it difficult to maintain an overview of the individual companies' IT environments and led to a lack of transparency. As a result, basic IT security standards could not be implemented uniformly, which increased the risk of vulnerabilities. In order to create clarity about the IT situation, a comprehensive IT screening was carried out to create transparency, identify weaknesses and develop clear recommendations for action. A conscious decision was made not to standardise the ERP systems used in order to meet the individual requirements of the companies.

SOLUTION

A structured IT screening was developed and carried out in order to overcome the challenges faced by the F.G. Pfister Group.Together with the client, a ‘big picture’ was created that defined the process, the tools used, the objectives and the delivery objects. The relevant subject areas for the screening were defined in close consultation with the client.

A catalogue of questions and templates for application, partner and financial lists were developed to systematically record the IT landscape. On this basis, a comprehensive analysis was carried out, which included written surveys, personal interviews and on-site inspections. The qualitative assessment of the individual subject areas revealed the overall state of IT at the respective companies and categorised them in an evaluation matrix.

Based on the results, concrete general and company-specific measures were developed, prioritised and recommended, taking into account the costs, risks and benefits. Each company received an individual document with the specific assessments and recommendations for action, which were explained in person to make the results understandable and realisable. The IT screening made a decisive contribution to increasing transparency and enabling greater standardisation of security measures.
